12 Days of Christmas

This year we are very prepared...food, baking...shopping...gift wrappings...grocery shoppings...venues to go to and etc...

What I didn't count on though was...my hub's Christmas closure was 1 week shorter than mine!!! Boohoo...

Oh well...we still have loads of fun attending church (me and Heidi that is...) and gatherings with food and laughter with our dear friends and relatives.

Something to share - top pregnancy tips

The moment your bump becomes obvious or the moment the news is leaked, there will be well-meaning advises from everywhere around the world. Even strangers you bumped into at the lift will have advise for you...yes this statement is mentioned in pregnancy books and I've realised it is so true! I find myself giving advises to my preggie colleagues as well...ha!

I think I posted something like this before but heck...it is also true that your short-term memory storage has gone down a tad. (personally I think it is due to the lack of sleep and constant waking up in the middle of the night coupled with the fact that you no longer have the luxury of sleeping beyond 7am) Ok here goes my list...:

1) Get a good and trustworthy gynae.
Reason: if you are uncomfortable with the one you've sought, do not worry to try another. It is only when you are 3/5 months preggie will they encourage you to take a package. So shop around...find one thats pro-natural if you want a full natural delivery. Much credit is given to Dr WK Tan for calling off my epidural. Other ppl sure can't wait to pump that $900+ into your spine. (a nurse secretly told me that there are side effects to epidural but I heard different testimonies. Some mommies are ok, some claimed backache. But you will get a backache bending over your baby anyway...so just watch your posture no matter how)

2) Ask around for hand-me-downs.
Reason: There are always things that you will need for the first few weeks or so...you only need mittens for the first 16 weeks. Please take the bold step to learn how to trim your bb nails and don't keep them in mittens all the time. I've seen babies who seem more than 5 months old still in mittens! Reason is because one of the milestones is learning how to clutch and unclutch and pass things from right hand to left hand. We took off Heidi's mittens in time and she can self-soothe by sucking on her fingers and grabbing stuffs, passing from one hand to the other very soon. Why...she even will pass whatever she's holding to her right hand when we are trying to slip her sleeve into her left. Very clever. No one taught her. We just make sure we create the right learning circumstances for her.

3) Take note not to overstock on NB size pampers. We only bought 2 packs and Heidi started using S size very soon...but she's stuck on M size very long. So it all depends on your baby.

4) Read up everything on breastfeeding if you are determined to breastfeed. If you are determined, it can happen! Really! Especially with fenugreek(oral herb to boast your supply), ngor fish(I think its threadfin fish) have plenty of fish soup papaya and with the current powerful breast pumps in the market, even if your bb aren't cooperative, you can always count on your wonderful breast pump. Oh yah...and massage ladies...they can boast your supply with massage on your boobs. Damn painful but supply really go up.

Highly recommended breastpumps from my experience are: Medela's Pump N Style and Avent's Manual handpump (this is my life saver as it helped cleared block ducts)

hmm...meant to publish this back in 2010...but I simply forgot...so I am publishing now...nearly 4 yrs later but never too late...

If I have #2...

and #2's a boy...

Instead of taking birdnest, I will take white fungus.
Instead of Meiji milk, I will take HL milk.
Instead of abstaining from coffee, I will take whenever I feel like it.
Instead of Avent baby bottom balm, we will use cheap and good Drapolene.
Instead of Avent bottles, we will use cheap and good Pigeon bottles.
Instead of Pigeon wet wipes, we will use whatever's the cheapest and on sale.
Instead of Huggies Ultra, we will use Drypers, Petpet and NTUC housebrand.
Instead of giving so much milk powder, he will be total breastfed! (until he's 8 months old or something)

Ballerina dream

Heidi's been telling me that she wanna learn ballet during the start of 2013 4th quarter. I asked her if she's serious, and she said she is. So I said...you have to give up drawing...and she agreed! (much to my disappointment...she's a really fast worker in drawing class and I get to see her completed work at the end of every lesson)

Oh well...but since its towards the end of the year...I am holding off her ballerina dream until she's 4 yrs old. There's a few centres around us that we can go for trials...I will start the hunt next year...that is tomorrow...and book us a few trial lessons.

Sending her for ballet has never been part of my dream for her. So I was genuinely surprised when she started requesting for ballet lessons. Why...even the only tutu dress I got for her is a BLACK one to match her black DVF black top from GAP...

But I will respect her will and decisions and send her to the best I can afford.

Another item bought for the future nest...

I was browsing around the stuffs in Taobao as the said website was mentioned a lot of times in renotalk T-Blog by those new house owners.

After surfing Taobao for so long...I am clueless  as can be. Other than managing to type in mandarin those items that I want, I have problem checking the prices...where to ship to (apparently you need to go through daigou65 for those items that do not ship to worldwide and they have 2 warehouses - one in Shanghai and one in Guangzhou)

Thank God I have a sister whos like the queen of Taobao shopping...also she happened to be free from work due to wisdom tooth extraction.

I sent her the links of those stuffs I want and she will come back with comments such as:

the cuckoo clock seller not trustworthy. not advisable to get from her. wall clock shipping could be ex.

the rack not worth it la!! BLOODY HELL!! 1000SGD not including shipping yet leh!!

these are from western countries? if yes, u might as well get from the countries itself, not worth to have them ship it to China then ship to SG. e.g. US products cheaper to buy from US websites that from taobao..

So in the end, I settled on this tea set from The Snowman Storybook by Raymond Briggs ...

I kinda like the fact that you can stack the cups and tea pot but that probably means the teapot is really small too...Oh well...I only pray they come in perfect pieces with no chips or cracks...

In Jesus name I prayed...Amen!

Golden Axe...Golden Time...Golden Axe...Golden Time...

One of my company's channel has this title called 'Golden Time'. It is a very very recent title and is still in production in Japan and we are getting the materials really really fast...quite amazing...

But I have a teeny tiny bit of problem here...

I tend to call Golden Time...Golden AXE. And it had happened more than once...maybe its the age thing lah...

Here's how different they are:

1) Golden Time

Story revolves around this boy Banri Tada and his best friend, Mitsuo Yanagisawa. Mitsuo had a childhood friend named Koko Kaga who is very smitten with Mitsuo and hopes to marry him when they grow up. However, Mitsuo do not like Koko's character as Koko is very rich and do not know how to make friends but she was able to behave normally with Banri.

Love soon blossoms between Banri and Koko...

Golden Time

2) Golden Axe
On the other hand...Golden Axe is just a good ol side-scrolling, beat 'em up,hack and slash arcade video game released in 1989 by Sega for the System 16-B arcade hardware. It is the first game in the Golden Axe series.

I still remember all the slashing and hacking...hehehe...back then arcade play was like $0.50 per round. I am not sure about the pricing now...

Heidi's now...3 yrs old and going to 4.
So far she's been to Msia - Penang, Cameron Highlands, Selangor - Sekinchan, Petaling Jaya and Klang, Legoland and Hello Kitty Town, Thailand - Bangkok, HongKong. Not bad at all for a 3 yrs old.

Going anywhere next year?
Not really...now that our flat is almost ready!

I am so excited! I am scourging all over renotalk.com and will probably check out the latest edition of Squarerooms and Home&Decor later. I am also surfing Taobao...seems that a lot of Singaporeans are getting their lightbulbs, wall clocks, showerheads and what naught from Taobao. It is a home & decor dream site! :)

But first of all...gonna get more ideas from Ikea (I love their latest collection!!!) and Muji and FRANCFRANC! I am so glad FrancFranc decided to set up in Singapore. I just going in and walking around...its a dream shop to me!

Sticker Club

Recently I received something called "Sticker Club" by...I think I got 4 mommies who sent me. I tried to forward it and was declined by 2 mommies. (Instructions were to send to 6 mommies)

Heidi soon received one sticker...sender didn't leave names so I don't know who to thank or send back. But I took down all the addresses and names sent to me...regardless whether they are in 1st or 2nd spot...I just take all and held Heidi's hand to write little letters to them. Stickers included in the letter of course.

Then I happened to have a neglected parcel waiting for me at the post office, so I brought Heidi for a trip to the Post Office!

She is very calm for a first experience. We waited...quite a while...for the lady to find my parcel, then purchase stamps and then paste and send.

I guess her book drop experience serves her well.

Managing haze...and HFMD...

After receiving the newsletter that 3 kids in her class caught HFMD, my inlaws decided not to send Heidi to school.

It was a welcomed decision as haze started to infringe Singapore's blue sky and turned everything grey and hazy.

Watching the PSI index was like watching the stock market. 

We told Heidi to stay strictly in the room and we left the air-con on for her. We went on as per our usual routine to work and etc until the haze condition worsen, and my MIL called to say Heidi was having a fever. 

To cut a long story short...we found ulcer in her mouth and very soon 1 ulcer in my tongue. Her fever broke after 2 days...thank God...now the challenge was to get her to keep eating (it's painful if the milk or porridge was too hot) and to stop her from scratching at the rashes. Now that I think of it, her rashes are rather like chicken pox which held liquid...maybe she had a bit of both? Anyway she got 7 days MC from school while I got 2 days MC from work.

Since we can't get a decent air purifier cum humidifier, we decided to get the Osim Umist first. At least it hydrates is while we slept in air-con room.

Masks, I manages to get some with the help of a dear friend...they are just for emergency since Heidi is still young and we have every intention to keep her indoor for as long as we can until all these are over.

I have to admit that I came down rather hard on Heidi for contacting HFMD. I know she didn't mean it but she started to suck her finger again...which is probably why she caught it. I think I better stop it before she gets too upset.

I am thankful that being a mother, I always kept some spares handy...for this current episode, I am glad I have the following items in stock:

1. Milk Powder

2. Diaper

3. Rhinatiol Promenthazin (I need them for my sensitive nose and to curb cough. Works for Heidi as well)

4. Jin Yin Hua (boil and use the water to apply on Heidi. This will reduce itch and solve rashes.)

5. California baby cream

6. Mini library for Heidi

7. Kitchen play set

8. N95 masks for adults and kids

9. Humidifier

10. Canned food and instant noodles

Praying for rain to come soon and God will pelt out all the fires...

Recently I discovered the brilliancy of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe while surfing around about teaching Heidi mannerism.

I have to admit that I wasn't brought up very classy or ladylike. My weekends were spent roaming around in the old kampung...playing with muds...hunting centipedes and grasshoppers...so I wanted to make sure I am guiding Heidi the best way I can.
So I googled and I found Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

He's very famous for this quote: A man's manners are a mirror in which he shows his portrait.

So it is very very important to educate your child in the way of the 'fine' world. How it is very important to say your 'please', 'thank you' and 'my pleasure'.

I learnt them late but never too late...

Belated post: Farewell Learning Vision

It was with a very heavy heart that I withdrew Heidi from Learning Vision. The teachers and classmates were great. Wonderful curriculum and Heidi was doing so well in there.

The only drawback was that it is too far from home and by the time I picked her up from work and fed her dinner...it's almost 8-9pm.

So we withdrew her and place her in St James...but that didn't go very well with everyone as the school is far and Little Heidi has to take a school bus...so we forfeit our school fees and deposit for the school bus to place her in the childcare nearer my MIL.

So far so good but I still miss LV where she surprises me by singing new songs all the time. Oh well...guess I have to work harder on weekends then...

Car battery down

Kel was trying to start the car for work...I was candy crushing as usual but I soon realise something's wrong.

The engine is not starting! Naturally I prayed and willed the engine to start, while Kel called those emergency helpline.

The guy soon arrived within 30 mins and he sold us a larger battery (which we were told by a previous workshop that our car model cannot support...)

"装不下去、我送你!"

Such confidence and chirpiness..much needed on a Wed morning and you are late for work...and he actually brought his toy poodle with him...awe...

Now we will know who to call the next time our battery die...

Heidi's 3 yrs old!

...like 2 weeks ago...

She's officially 3 yrs and dunno how many days old by the time I get to this post. :)
She helped me fulfil my dreams of getting a tier-ed cake! Yipppeee!!!
Daddy can't object because I kept the birthday party small (as in celebrating only with her classmates and those toddlers are...very very hungry...I think...)

This year, everything's new for her. New teachers, new friends, new school. I planned her birthday for a while and made the horrendous mistakes of doing a personalised Elmo greeting card on each of the 16 goodie bags. (I have to rope in my poor husband to cut the eyes and noses or I will never have finished them...juggling work as a coordinator and mother is not really that easy...)

We met her teachers and friends...shocked by one who called our darling daughter "老婆"...its so...unsettling with me...I told Heidi to slap him the next time he calls her that...*just kidding*

I will like to give thanks and praises to my Daddy God for making this celebration a smooth smooth one by:
1. Allowing my husband to participate by supernaturally cutting short his reservist. (the boo-boos were so unbelievable that my hub was allowed to sign out early)
2. Giving me and hub some couple time before starting the party.
3. Controlling the epidemic - stomach flu in the kids so that most of them were present for the celebration. (Heidi got well enough to celebrate, just in time! Praise Him!)
4. The glow in Heidi is the best present from Him.

Now that she's 3...I will have to start some homeschooling stuffs...not that I am kiasu, mind you...but that she's so ready. She can write 'H' already...recognising it as the first letter of her name. I am proud of her and I will need to get my head examined if I still don't assist in her learning.

My priorities for my kid

According to my PD, when 2 parents who has no allergies come together, their kid will have some allergies. So if you think your child don't have allergies...think again.

All that sniffling and cough might all be just a case of...allergies.

I am really thankful for the wisdom of our PD and I've learnt so many things from her. Sticking to HA products - milk powder, baby bath and lotion and etc...I now know and accept that Heidi has a sensitive nose just like me and Kelvin.

An accidental whiff of citronella (my favorite scent by the way), got me sneezing rapidly for like 50 times after that. Something as simple as a dust bunny can set me off...or something as uncontrollable as...the climate.

I have no problem when Heidi get a sniffle and cough...but I have problems with her fever episodes. Her fever can last between 5-7 days at anytime. I am not sure if my in-laws are right...that its something wrong I ate during my pregnancy...yes yes...blame it all on the mother...or we are not treating her fever smart enough.

So I read up on fever as much as I can and broaden my understandings...these are my findings:
1. No shower (mil is right on this. cos everytime I thought the battle won and gave Heidi a shower, the fever came on almost immediately...even higher.)
2. Administer paracentamol if temperature is above 37.5 (if below, keep monitoring but encourage your child to drink more water) The body sometimes generate a higher temperature to burn off bacteria and kills off weak cells (which is essential for the body to grow and prosper). If you interfere too early, you will only send the wrong signal to the body to turn up the temperature even more! Thus resulting in an higher fever.
3. Your child might reject a fever patch at a younger age...but if older, you can try again. Heidi rejected the patch between 1-2 yr old. But recently she will let me put one on as she felt that it looked pretty cool.
4. Traditional method such as rubbing a peeled hardboiled egg, or plain flour with water...(target forehead, chest and back) works too.
5. Contrary to what my mil believe, I don't believe in administrating paracentamol 6-hrly with or without fever. Please refer to point 2.

However, all of the 5 points stated are only external help that worried parents can watch out for. Gosh...this sounds like an advertorial but its not...I found Sambucol for kids.

Nowadays Heidi's fever? 1-1.5 days and thats it with a daily intake of 5ml of Sambucol. Coupled with chinese TCM to fix any flu. Her body are definitely stronger now that she's older. I highly recommend sambucol to any parents with a sensitive child like mine.

It's a elderberry extract discovered by a Israeli scientist (just the source convinced me that God has a hand in this). Its a efficient immune booster and rich source of Vit C. Our bodies do no retain Vit C. That is why it is good to have a good source of Vit C daily.

And thanks to Sambucol, now that my child is stronger, I can plan for more lung strengthening outings such as:
1. Bubble blowing! All that blowing, trains the lungs.
2. Visits to the library! Borrow a song and dance DVD. All that singing and moving....helps!
3. Fresh air and plenty of sun at the beach or at the park.
4. And if weather permits and ur child loves a dip...go for a swim!
5. Last but not least...plenty of fun and laughter...laughing pleases God and strengthens your lungs.

God loves a twinkling laughter...and now I know why. Every sparkle of laughter from Heidi goes straight to the chest of pride and joy in my heart.

By the way...this post marks Heidi's 31 month's entry...

Heidi suddenly lost her fear of water/pool and made a new friend...

Happy 29 month, Heidi!...well almost...

Last sat, I painted Heidi's nails for fun. She didn't like it when we took the OPI tester and painted it on her left index finger. But this time, she asked for them. And the thing Heidi learnt about her momma is...once you asked for something, this momma will never let you back out of the deal easily. Unless you put up a fierce fight or something...

So I painted all 10 of her fingernails before she had the chance to change her mind. Haphazardly...note: I have to be fast before she changes her mind.

Conflicting emotions fled through Heidi's face when I am done. Part of her regretted her request and part of her thinks the color is sweet until we encouraged her and told her to go show it off to her granny whos usually very obliging.

Heidi had brought many many joys to our lives and I feel happier now that she's older, sleeps through the night (not counting last night where she woke up all frustrated and covered with sweat and kicked angrily at her blanket. All that venting out woke me and I have to bribe her to go back to sleep with 180oz of milk. Admittedly the night is rather warm and one of her parents still covered her up with her blanket)

Dramatic flu episodes are all a thing of the past now that any hicks or hiaks are made manageable with Sambucol. Hip hip hooray!!!

She's astonished us with how much she has learnt...she can count (recite rather) from 1 to 20...sing her ABCs and draw circles and triangles. My hub now fretted about the fact that she don't really recognise the alphabets and I have to roll my eyes at his decree that I worked on her recognizing them. (yes...men! say only...not really doing unless you forced them into a corner and take away their Android gadgets)

What really amazed me though...is Heidi's appreciation for Saturday Night Live and  ability in repeating clearly new words that we teach her. I better watch what I say...

Of course there are bad days where I just wanna lock her in a cupboard and give her some bread and water...but its been pretty good. Coming to 29 months and many more happy months to come!

Preschooler Printable - God's Little Princess

Recently I joined this wonderful group of homeschooling mommies on FB and was amazed by their selfless sharing and wonderful tips.

I know I wouldn't have the dedication to homeschool Heidi totally like them, but pumping in that extra few minutes of fun...that I can do!

So I went goggling and found FREE an wonderful resources online. Shared by dedicated and selfless mommies around the world. I am so inspired! And it helps also with Popular bookstore having great offers on laminators with free laminate pouches! So I printed out the princess pack from oneplusoneequalsone website, studied how to make use of the printables from a montessori site, bought the laminator and here we go today!

This is me and my hub, hard at work in preparing the materials for our first pack.



Coloring skills and matching skills definitely improved. Attention span also improved. My baby has grown!

Heidi amazes me with how much she had grown since her Julia Gabriel classes. I am glad I tosses in a photo of her in the princess pack. It really really captured her attention and made her really pleased.


Next weekend I am going to think of what princess themed activities to do. She suddenly asked to do painting so I did an impromptu painting session with her...

We did (an irrelevant themed) arts and crafts when Heidi requested for painting.

Tips I will like to share in getting your child more engaged...especially if he/she is a strong willed one like my lil' Heidi...

1. Don't aim for perfection. Aim for fun.
2. Have a goal to achieve but a looser route to the goal.
3. Let the child chose the colors, and where to sign off his/her name on the artwork.
4. Call it quits when the child wants to quit.

Ding dang...Hello Kitty...Hello Kitty...Ding Dang...

It's been a long long time since I blogged...Heidi is officially 28 months and 2 days old! Yippeeee!!!

I can't remember how old Heidi was when she was first introduced to Hello Kitty and Doraemon. But she will mix up the 2 and called both 'Hello Kitty'.

Then when she got slightly older...she started to call BOTH characters '叮当'!

Both me and my hub couldn't fathom why she got em mixed up...

They are so different! But they are both cats though...I reminded my hub. Just that Doraemon had his ears chewed off by a mouse in the earlier part of his story.

 But today...we finally know why Heidi kept mixing them up. This is probably how she sees them both...

So in order to keep herself free from our nagging...she will just go..."叮当-Hello Kitty! 叮当-Hello Kitty!"

But at 28months old...she finally can tell them apart correctly and accurately...
